In My Mailbox (95) + Weekly Recap

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
I got this perfection condition used copy from Better World Books (where for each book you buy, one is donated and it's eco-friendly) so I can finally read this without taking my signed edition out of my house. Or my room.

If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan
I've been looking forward to this one for ages and then Claire Legrand hosted a Twitter giveaway! Thank you!

The Spectacular Now by Tim Sharp
Excited for this one, especially with the movie that just came out! Thank you, Random Buzzers!

I am the Cheese by Robert Cormier
I read this book when I was in fourth grade and even though it scared the living daylights out of me, I really like this book. And I probably won't find it as disturbing now. (Plus, it was only $0.25!)

The weekly review featured an adult book, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, that besides being an amazing read, has a lot of cross-over appeal for YA readers.

It's completely wishful thinking, but why can't these sequels exist? (Still holding out hope on another Libba Bray feminist satire, though.)

Who else is participating in the Something Strange and Deadly Book Club with Epic Reads? Do you feel Mrs. Fitt  is justified?

This week's Bookish Buys is for all the writers and typewriter fanatics out there.

The latest Reader's Report (a newsletter for book bloggers by book bloggers) is out today! Why not check out the latest edition, eh?

What have you been reading this week?

  1. I want to read The Spectacular Now, it sounds really good and I like reading the book before seeing the movie. Have fun reading! ~Pam

    1. Same! I'm pretty sure reading the book first is like book nerd law. :)

  2. I just read the Spectacular Now! I liked it I really did but i felt like i had way too many expectations for the book so i was a bit let down. it was a great book but i guess i expected it to change my view or something and when it didn't i was sort of disapointed. I guess what i'm trying to say is don't make my mistake and put too many expecations on this book and you'll enjoy it!

    1. Yeah, I've had many books fall short of expectations before. I'm trying to go into THE SPECTACULAR NOW with an open mind. :)

  3. Oooh, I remember seeing I am the Cheese in the library. Maybe I'll try reading it?

And Better World Books looks amazing. Maybe I'll try it out.

    1. You definitely should (both read I AM THE CHEESE and try Better World Books)! :D

  4. Learn how to write a mission statement that will propel your business to amazing success. Whether you're a new business owner or a seasoned veteran, learn why a mission statement is one of the most important things in your repertoire. this site
