Top Ten Most Intimidating Books
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Crime and PunishmentThe Casual VacancySeraphina (Seraphina, #1)
1. Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Why it's Intimidating: This is a summer reading book, so not only do I have to make sure I read 39 pages every day this month so that I'll be done in two weeks and not be rushing to finish the essay about it that's due on August 1st, but I have to memorize important details and keep track of characters who hopefully have easier names than Fyodor Dostoevsky.

2. The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling
Why it's Intimidating: Basically, I desperately want to love this, but I'm a bit afraid that I won't, which would feel like a betrayal to Jo. And yes, I realize how ridiculous that sounds.

3. Seraphina by Rachel Hartman
Why it's Intimidating: I started this one last summer, but stopped 100 pages in in order to read Robin Palmer's latest release (Wicked Jealous). I just wasn't getting into it, which was weird because A.) It's gotten a ton of praise and B.) I love high fantasy and C.) Dragons. If I were to start it again, I think I'd really like it.

...and that's all I can come up with for this week's TTT! I strained my brain trying to come up with a few more titles, but this is really it. If another book comes to mind, I'll update the post.

What books intimidate you?

  1. I feel the same way about The Casual Vacancy. Plus, I don't really love the plot blurb, so I think I'm just going to pretend the book doesn't exist for now.

I'm also intimidated by Seraphina. It sounds like I should LOVE that book, and I even own a copy, but I'm afraid of being let down. Also, it's long.

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one, especially when it comes to Seraphina! As for The Casual Vacancy, I'm planning on reading it this weekend. Most likely. I'll let you know how it goes...

  5. I think that The Casual Vacancy should be on my list, too. In fact, I don't know if I'll ever be able to read it because, let's be honest...nothing will ever compare to HP in my eyes. I feel quite the same with much of your list.

    I'm your newest follower...happy Tuesday! :)

    1. That's my worries! I know I'm not going to love it as much as HP, but I still want to love it! haha Thanks for following!

  6. I'm not really planning to read Casual Vacancy. I admit that I'm sort of curious to see JKR writing a more adult book, but the subject matter just doesn't interest me.
I've also heard great praise for Seraphina! I don't know whether it's the book for me because I'm not all that crazy about dragons, but if you think you'd like it if you picked it up again, I think you should give yourself that kick ;)
Thanks for stopping by my list!
