City Spotlight: NYC

Saturday, July 7, 2012
Besides other countries, there are a lot of great places right here in the U.S. to visit. New York is one of the most vibrant cities in America (as many BEA goers know) and it shows through these Manhattan-set novels:

Suite Scarlett (Scarlett, #1)
Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson
Scarlett and her family run a small hotel right smack in the center of NYC. Her brother wants to be an actor, Mrs. Amberson (the eccentric guest staying in the room Scarlett is in charge of) is mildly crazy, and Scarlett may find romance with an actor named Eric. This book is FANTASTIC, by the way. I definitely recommend it.

Viola in the Spotlight (Viola, #2)
Viola in the Spotlight by Adriana Trigiani
The sequel to Viola in Reel Life. Viola returns to NYC for the summer after her first year in boarding school and has to juggle friends, family, and an internship. If you're at all interested in Broadway, definitely read this book. There's a lot to do with theater in this book, which I found really enjoyable!

Take Me There
Take Me There by Susane Colasanti
This is, of course, a love story, and a very cute one at that! Three best friends, Rhiannon, Nicole, and James, are growing up and falling in love in NYC. Warning: this book may make you crave cupcakes since the characters visit this AMAZING sounding bakery!

What are some of your favorite books set in New York?

  1. Oh cool I have Take Me There to read! I love the Shopaholic series and one of them she's in NYC I loved it! I can't recall another one right now though.

Your comments brighten my day. :)
